I'm half way through my sixth year of taking daily photos. I'm still taking the photos, but am finding it difficult to have the time each day to post them. So, while I may lag behind, I usually try and catch up at some point.

irishmurr > Sisters ....

Saturday was a busy day -- we took a cruise on a boat down the Cuyahoga River and out onto Lake Erie and then, since it was such a lovely day, we took the ladies to the park for an impromptu picnic .... and some photos, of course. How do you decide on one photo to use as a daily after a day like that? Well, since I couldn't decide on one, I used two. Many thanks to Amy .... and John ... for their motivation to get me to make a collage!

Most of you know our next door neighbors, Ashley and Ava. I remember the day Ash was born like it was just yesterday, and then less than 20 months later, along came Ava. Having a sister myself who is only 14 months older than me, I know exactly how special this relationship can be. (August 18, 2012)

"If you don't understand how a woman could both love her sister dearly and want to wring her neck at the same time, then you were probably an only child."

irishmurr > "M" is usually for Murray around our house .....

...... except when we're getting ready for the annual steak roast for the Cadillac Club, and Larry brings out the Big Guns -- or, in other words, his grilling suitcase, complete with spatula, tongs, skewers, basting brush and, yes, branding irons. So, in this case, "M" is for medium. :-)
(August 17, 2012)

"The only time to eat diet food is while you're waiting for the steak to cook."
   ~~ Julia Child
irishmurr > Interesting concept ....

When I walked out of my building at noon today, I spotted this display. There were bottles of juice being sold at The Honest Store. There was a plastic box, where people deposited dollar bills and then took the juice. I'd be interested to see how they faired by the end of the day. (August 16, 2012)

"Make yourself an honest man, and then you may be sure there is one less rascal in the world."
   ~~ Thomas Carlyle
irishmurr > Remnants of the pool party can still be seen around our house ....

Ava did a great job creating this shot of Maeve, complete with swimsuit and floaties. She also cleaned up Maeve's room after the girls were playing there. We're definitely lucky to have such great neighbors. Thank you Ava!!! (August 15, 2012)

"In about the same degree as you are helpful, you will be happy."
   ~~ Karl Reiland
irishmurr > Girls Night Out this month turned in to Girls Lunch Out ... and we went to Stone Mad Pub, which is where I took Larry back in April for his birthday. I had to get a shot of the ladies room, which was full of tile work done by a local artisan. (August 14, 2012)

"The artist's world is limitless. It can be found anywhere, far from where he lives or a few feet away. It is always on his doorstep."
   ~~ Paul Strand
irishmurr > Another shot from our pool party .... not only did we have swimming, face painting, bubbles, dress up -- we had hula hoops too! (August 13, 2012)

“Fun is good.”
   ~~ Dr. Seuss
irishmurr > Today was our annual kids' pool party. We had ten children -- nine girls and one boy. Luckily, being the only boy at so many functions, Michael is used to situations like this...... :-)
(August 12, 2012)

"Boys will be boys. And even that wouldn't matter if only we could prevent girls from being girls."
   ~~ Anne Frank
irishmurr > One final shot from our visit to Dublin, Ohio. We spotted this interesting structure last year and when I inquired what it was, I learned that it hadn't even been dedicated yet. Come to find out, it was a new piece commissioned as part of the City of Dublin's Bicentennial Celebration. It was created to remind people of a blacksmith's shop and residents donated various tools for the project. We went back to see it again this year, now that it's been completed. (August 10, 2012)

"History is a kind of introduction to more interesting people than we can possibly meet in our restricted lives; let us not neglect the opportunity."
   ~~ Dexter Perkins

Here's some more information about the structure: "George M. Karrer came to Dublin from Germany in the 1850s. He built the barn on the site in 1876 with tools of his own making. He then relocated his blacksmith shop to the property from across the street and also operated platform scales to weigh large wagons for local farmers and merchants from a location next to the building. Karrer ran the farm with the help of his sons, but his primary business was serving the community with his technical craft. The wheelwright stone that he used to fit metal “tread” onto a wooden wagon wheel remained on the property and has now been incorporated into the artwork." [Source: Dublin Arts Council]
irishmurr > Still working on photos from the Irish festival ..... (August 9, 2012)

“Summertime is always the best of what might be.”
   ~~ Charles Bowden
irishmurr > Back in the cemeteries ..... (August 8, 2012)

"For death is no more than a turning of us over from time to eternity."
   ~~ William Penn
irishmurr > We spotted a lovely Irish lass in a field while we were in Dublin .... (August 7, 2012)

"May your day be touched by a bit of Irish luck,
brightened by a song in your heart,
and warmed by the smiles of the people you love."
   ~~ Irish Blessing
irishmurr > Before leaving Dublin, we had to stop by the Field of Corn. There are 109 six foot tall ears of corn displayed, in honor of Sam Frantz -- who farmed this land from 1935 to 1963. Mr. Frantz was known for development of hybrid corn seed, so it seems fitting that these huge ears of corns were placed here in his honor. (August 6, 2012)

“Farming looks mighty easy when your plow is a pencil and you're a thousand miles from the corn field.”
   ~~ Dwight David Eisenhower
irishmurr > It was a fun-filled day for the Murrays at the Irish festival in Dublin. (August 5, 2012)

"Leprechauns, castles, good luck and laughter.
Lullabies, dreams and love ever after.
A thousand welcomes when anyone comes...
That's the Irish for You!"
   ~~ Irish Blessing
irishmurr > I'd like to introduce you all to Chief Leatherlips. We visit Dublin, Ohio so often, yet had never stopped to visit the Chief. This year we made sure to find the time -- and we're certainly glad we did. (August 4, 2012)

“Death comes to all, but great achievements build a monument which shall endure until the sun grows cold.”
   ~~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Here's some information on the monument:
"The Dublin Arts Council commissioned the work by Boston artist Ralph Helmick and dedicated it in Scioto Park on July 1, 1990. The Leatherlips Monument is a twelve-foot high portrait, the chief's hair blown back and receding into the hillside (reminiscent Chief Crazy Horse's profile in South Dakota). Limestone slabs are mortared together to form the head, which gazes west towards the Scioto River." [Source: www.roadsideamerica.com]
irishmurr > A quick shot of my morning glories before I head off to work. (August 3, 2012)

“Morning is wonderful. Its only drawback is that it comes at such an inconvenient time of day.”
   ~~ Glen Cook
