Carole's great grandmother was Nancy Cordelia Stinnett and her great grandfather was John Eslinger, of Sevier County, Tennessee. Here are some wonderful old family photos, from those branches of the family tree.

irishmurr > It was thought that Elizabeth Wilkerson (b. 4/9/1798) married a man by the name of McKissick and had a son, Alexander. That theory has since been disproven. Descendants of the Stinnett family have had dna tests performed, which confirm ties to Stinnett, but no connection to the McKissick family. So, who is Alexander's father? In any event, in 1923, Elizabeth married John Stinnett and went on to have seven more children. Alexander took the name Stinnett and was thought to be his mother's favorite. "Old Betts," as Elizabeth was called, has been referred to as a "hellcat on wheels!" She was Carole's gggg grandmother; her son Alexander was Carole's ggg grandfather.
irishmurr > This has not been confirmed, but is thought to be a photo of Old John Stinnett (1760 - 1831) and Elizabeth Wilkerson Stinnett (b. 1798). Many thanks to Altrice Stinnett for sharing this photo!
irishmurr > Alexander Stinnett (7/18/1812 - 7/21/1877) married Elmina Ball in 1832. They had fourteen children.
irishmurr > Elmina Ball (Stinnett) (1/31/1812 - 6/19/1893) was a daughter of Osborne (Ausburn) Ball and Martha Thomason. She married Alexander Stinnett. Their son, Jackson C. Stinnett, was Carole's gg grandfather. Elmina is buried in Stinnett Cemetery in Jones Cove, TN, along with Carole's grandparents and many other family members.
irishmurr > Here's a photo of Jahu Stinnett (1833 - 1908), son of Alexander and Elmina (Ball) Stinnett. He first married a woman by the name of Sarah; he then married Jane McMahan and had two sons, Ira and Richard Jayhugh. He then married Lucinda Roberts and had sons James and John. He had no children with his last two wives, Lydia Breeden and Celia ?? Manys thanks to great grandson James Stinnett, for sharing this photo!
irishmurr > Here's a wonderful photo of Richard Jayhugh and Katie (McGaha) Stinnett. Richard Jayhugh (1870 - 1918) was a son of Jahu and Jane (McMahan) Stinnett, and grandson of Alexander and Elmina (Ball) Stinnett. Katie was born in 1873 and died in 1946. Again, our thanks to James Stinnett for sharing this photo of his grandparents with us!

irishmurr > Here are some of our Stinnett cousins: this is William Henry Stinnett born Feb 11, 1840 Amherst County, Virginia died Aug 12, 1909, and his wife Lucy Wright born Jun 18, 1845 died 1910, they were married Sep. 16 1864.

irishmurr > This is John William Stinnett, who was born in Cleveland, Tennessee on April 4, 1881. On June 16, 1913, he married Venita Olive Melton (6/23/1896 - 9/1/1959). John died on July 23, 1953. They are both buried in the Grant Memorial Cemetery in Marion, Indiana. (If anyone knows the parents of John, please e-mail us at irishmurr57@yahoo.com. Thanks!)
irishmurr > Barbara Ann Stinnett (1897 - 1975) was a great granddaughter of Elmina (Ball) and Alexander Stinnett. She was daughter of Cordelia (Breeden) and William Harrison Stinnett. On October 25, 1914, she married James Pross King (1892 - 1980), who coincidentally was Carole's great uncle on the King side!
